Who's Going On The Water This Weekend?

Who's Going On The Water This Weekend?

Postby riverrat on Mon Nov 16, 2009 9:40 am

This is the place to hook up with others that are looking for people to go out on the water with. For now, it pertains to the Lake Maurepas / Lake Pontchartrain area. If we start getting people interested in other areas, we will add a separate topic for them. As for me, I don't have anything big planned until April, 2010 (water events). Still, there a bunch of us looking for a reason to come out and play. We have people that like to ride during the week, too.

I have put up several things under Upcoming Events (Homepage) about future water events. I'd like for people to re-think our boating season. I can't tell you how many people that were out on our Party Barge Party Cruise (November 14th) said that it was cool to be out and that {normally} after Labor Day in September, everything just DIES on the river. In the past, boating season is usually thought of as from Memorial Day (May) until Labor Day (September) or no later than the End of Summer Lake Bash, on Lake Maurepas, which is the weekend after Labor Day.

Maybe consider thinking this way (and spread the word and share with others). Boating season should be from February (when our Mardi Gras Boat Parades start) until mid-November (when we all start thinking about Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve, and taxes (yuck). Easy to remember February - November. We are busy thinking up new things to do, NOT just poker runs, which is the idea that most are stuck on.

Just got a special request to try really hard to do The Battle of the Bateaux in 2010; a time monitored event (not a race). A TIME MONITORED EVENT.

We got a LOT planned and not nearly done. Check back and keep an eye on our Upcoming Events Section.

Anyone going on the water this Thanksgiving weekend? I am. Have family coming out to visit and want to show them our beautiful waterways. It will be a sight seeing ride,up and down the river, just taking it all in. Anyone else up to it?

Been watching the weather and it sures has been a tad bit cool. Hope you are having fun on the water this Thanksgiving, found some others to play with, AND staying warm. I can't wait until Feb., 2010 and our Mardi Gras Boat Parades (although I will be out before then, for sure).

I really think that this section could be a fun place to plan things with others, once boating season kicks back off. I know that when I am going out (weekends OR weekdays) it will be posted here and hope a bunch of you can come out to play.

Cool. Thanks for joining the forum and I think when warmer weather hits, we will be getting more activity. I think this topic, people looking for other people to go out and have fun with, will do well. (I just wish it would get warmer).

Gene and I went out on the water yesterday, for the first time since before Thanksgiving. It was a glorious day, but we did not see many people. We went Up (down)? the Blind river a bit and down to the Blind River Bar. Did not since much wild life, equatic or two legged. Just enjoyed the smells and the feeling of the warm sun. Is winter over?
We did catch another batch of catfish and learing to skin and clean them is a very slow learning process, but we are getting there.
A question for you all, when does Crab season start? Ms-Syd

Crab season is goin on right now. i will try and find what the crab season officially is. If anybody is wanting crabs (nce one's) call Nick at 225-571-1531. This is the guy that has Pirogue's Landing in Pt Vincent. Things are slow right now and they are shut down until warmer weather. Nick is way down south bringing the good stuff up to the Pt. Vincent area. Talked with him yesterday and he said he had some really fine crabs at a great price!!
